Artist of the Week: Jacob Pickard

Artist of the Week: Jacob Pickard

"Listen to as many different sounds as you can get your hands on."

Presenting our Kindred Artist of the Week series! We are big fans of all the artists we work with and we are so excited to share their stories!

This week’s featured artist is local musician Jacob Pickard! You've probably seen/heard Jacob's music all over town - not only does he play his own music, but he often collaborates with other musicians and poets on recordings, performances, and open mics. He'll be at Kindred Post tonight for an interactive Sound Bar - like a salad bar, but for your ears! Play with objects, drum machine, buttons and more to add your unique sound to the live community soundtrack he'll be mixing! 4:30-7p tonight.

Who are you?

My name is Jacob Raymond Pickard, an Illinois transplant. Currently raising my twin daughters in Juneau.

What do you do?

I’m a musician, sound collector, culinary artist, Rad Dad

Who/what inspires you?

Most of my inspiration comes from my surroundings. Also film, I’m a huge fan of movie soundtracks/ scores.

What’s your favorite moment in the process?

My favorite monument in the process would have to be ethereal, it’s that moment right after you have played all night and you step off the stage and you feel lighter then when you stepped on it.

What’s a trick of your trade, or a piece of advice for other artists in your medium?

Listen to as many different sounds as you can get your hands on. Some of my favorite music, I would have never found on my own if I didn’t actively try to go outside of my bubble.

What’s next?

Finish a little home studio I’m working on and put all the music I have written over the years into one album, maybe a few shows to go with it, I’m trying not to take myself to seriously these days.....which is not always easy. 😬

See Jacob in action tonight at Kindred Post from 4:30-7p!
