BIPOC-owned Businesses in Juneau, Alaska
One of the easiest and most sustainable ways to empower BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities is to support BIPOC-owned businesses. With our followers' help, we've compiled a list for our city: Juneau, Alaska. We know this is not an exhaustive list, and some folks have been left off intentionally at their request. Please use it merely as a point of departure and as a framework for thinking about how your dollars can build racial equity. Thank you for making these small but important choices. From curriculum written by Christy NaMee Eriksen (@tsu_namee) and Melissa Garcia Johnson (@melissagarciaj): The systemic and historical oppression of people of color creates unique obstacles (i.e. limitations in access to education, financial assets, and exposure to entrepreneurship) in the pursuit of entrepreneurial ventures. Our resources are power - who we choose to share that power with is evident in our spending practices. When we choose to support businesses owned by people of color, we support the wellbeing of people of color and contribute towards greater equity across our community.
